Let the spirit of Coleridge prevail:
Resilience in distress;
Honest dissection of unhappiness.
Strike the flint of dejection;
Make the bright flame flare.
Defy the dark Muse:
Illuminate ; enthuse.
Through chasms profound envision light:
Lead, Poet, Lead …
Along that uncharted course.
Lead, Poet, Lead,
To the Imagination’s deep source … .

Good morning, Marya,
You have indeed captured the spirit of Coleridge with these words. As I read them, I wondered what he would make of them. Is that a silly idea? Well, here’s a sillier one – I wonder what he does make of them? Isn’t it true that there’s a golden thread that connects each of us with all others?
Good morning, Jamie …
Well, that is indeed a great compliment, Jamie. Thank you so much.
No, I don’t think your conjectures are silly at all. Or if they are then I join you in that silliness.
I wondered myself just such things … and turn to his own words about the poet seeing ‘ phantoms of sublimity’.
Yes, the’ golden thread’ ….
Hello, Marya. We have been reading so much about the appalling weather in the West Country. I hope you are well.
Hello, Jamie ….
How kind of you to enquire. Thank you very much .. yes, I am well and not yet under water ! Actually (and fortunately) there is no river threatening to engulf me here although all fields are saturated and many roads awash in the area. Must order a dinghy soon !
I hope you and all your family are well and warm and dry. God Bless and thank you for your concern x
Dear Marya, I’m so glad to hear that all’s well for you, for we have read so many tales of disaster. Here in the Flatlands we long ago hired the Dutch to solve our drains – and took care to live thirty miles from the sea! But we do spare a thought for our more adventurous friends…. 🙂
Thank you for your good wishes, We are all well – I think my new grandson has something to do with it – he was born on Christmas Eve, you see. God bless. x
(When you have dried out a bit, I expect there will be a vigorous poetical response to Nature’s assault on the West Country.)
Hello, Jamie …
Apologies for the tardy response … computer out of action but after its resuscitation at PC
World I am finally at the keyboard again.
What a wonderful Christmas present! How lovely for all the family! You’ll be busy then with grandfatherly duties ……. May health, happiness and love always surround him. x
Very lovely sunny day here .. primrose and daffodil weather ; until now, that is. Pouring with rain at the moment but the toad trio will be happy again !
I’m not sure whether The Deluge will inspire any poetry but one never knows .. it’s always a surprise to me when thoughts arrange themselves into a line or two … watch this space, as they say.
God bless x
