The distillation of summer …

Wheatfield  early summer

The first day of July;
at the rippling wheatfield edge
wild grasses and wildflowers are blooming
and there among their wild profusion
I see one small tortoiseshell butterfly ..
amid a throng of ox-eye daisies
half-hidden by their tall, strong stems,
one butterfly is basking ..
with wings bright as a shaken kaleidoscope
distilling the beauty
of this season of the sun;
the essence of fecundity, of warmth and of hope… .

Reticent .. but I hope my poetry speaks for me .. Favourite quotation .. ' Uttering a word is like striking a note on the keyboard of the imagination.' Ludwig Wittgenstein
