The Poetic Voice … Book VI Paradise Lost

I am made dizzy by the words of Milton ..

I suffer vertigo;

I fall with the expelled

to the very mouth of Hell –

he ascends to Dantesque heights ..

with an imagination sublime

he imparts to Raphael

an Archangelic voice

both erudite and Divine:

in the beauty of his language

he transcends the human tongue

and with subtlety and brio

formulates the immanence

of the Eternal One.
