Tulip …

One tulip

with an aloof air-

red petals with a satin sheen

subtly curving

above a stem of green,

stands elegantly spare

in a display of floral art-

delightful to my eye

but not my heart;

for wildflowers

with quaint descriptive names,

do you agree,

are so much more deserving …

down hidden lanes

Bird’s-Eye Speedwell, Ragged Robin,

Scarlet Pimpernel

and creamy Queen Anne’s Lace

adorn the meadows, the fields

and hedgerows

with a fresh and unassuming grace ….
