A bitter wind …

A bitter wind blows sand along the shore

excoriating my skin;

I care not …

a turbulent tide

is rushing in.

Salt tang in the air;

salt tears,

tangled hair;

I care not …

a turbulent tide

is rushing in ..

Oh! Wild is the sea and fierce;

a ravening animal

released from the deep –

the outlying rocks devoured

with an exultant roar;

the crashing surf

its foaming maw.

Oh! Wild is the sea and fierce;

but the ungovernable power of the wind and the waves,

paradoxically, calms me …

obliterating my footsteps

faster than time:

I am erased .. I am set free ….

    Oh, Marya with this very vivid depiction, you take me back to how I sometimes felt as a young person. I am smiling here although this is a poignant poem. I am smiling because you have unknowingly taken me back in time with pinpoint accuracy. Super creative ingenuity.

    Thank you very much, Shermeen …. and I’m smiling now at the thought that these lines have transported you back in time ( the poem a kind of emotional Tardis ) … I’m glad to know that you’ve made it back to the present though 🙂
