Jagged rocks defy the mesmeric sea;
the hypnotic drama plays out in the surge
and in the answering swell.
But in my own mind’s eye
I dwell in life’s slow panorama ..
I stand upon a ledge of eroded land and lichen
and see the foothold here is but a slip away;
a momentary crumbling.
Still, recklessly I peer at the exultant spray
below the black cliff edge,
beguiled by the moment and the mood
of the sirenic sea
to taste in the salt-tears of the ocean
a near-suicidal camaraderie …
