Seagulls …

Inland,

unloved gulls cry raucously;

bold scavengers, thieving-

but overhead,

in patterns white on blue,

wheeling and weaving

above the ocean’s spray;

changing shape like feathered clouds

on a summer’s day,

they are the age-old symbols of the sea;

gliding on strong and graceful wings

with phantom voices of lost sailors’ loves

hauntingly muted … mewing.

    I love the sound of seagulls.

    Yes, Shermeen .. what fascinates me about their calls is the absolute distinction from their noisy, argumentative ‘city slicker’ ways inland and the harmonious and gentle sounds they make when over the sea .. their natural habitat.

    Hope you had a sunny Sunday as we did here in Cornwall 🙂
