A surfeit of beauty …

In the muffled stillness of the bay

sea-mist swirled in swathes

of diaphanous drifts

above the murmurs of unruffled waves.

A surfeit of beauty drenched my soul

with its excess ..

I drowned in its calm loveliness.

Yet, in those moments out of time

a part of my insistent mind

felt a privilege undeserved;

a thankfulness that I could see

and feel this balm of beauty and of peace

which washed over me ..

while out beyond the solace

of this soft embrace

I saw the armoured cohorts

of a warrior world cloaked

in a miasma of misery and hate

and wished that they might stand here

in my place;

enwrapped in the numinous clarity

of Nature’s veiled and misty face … .

    Hello, Marya. I do so enjoy the peace you bring! But, those warriors … I do not think they can all sense it, not even in the most beautiful surroundings. War is all they know. Life is just a thing to be lost or taken.

    Hello Jamie …

    Lovely to see you 🙂 Thank you very much.

    I fear you may be right but there is always hope .. ‘Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?’

    You’re too kind, Jamie … thank you 🙂

    Beautiful. Your picture is a masterpiece study of the colour blue. I could look at it forever, enraptured by the beauty of God’s creation. Your poem is perhaps worthy of a prize the literati give out on regular basis.

      I’m pleased you liked the photograph, Shermeen .. it was a lovely sunny morning on the coast but the sea was drifting in a veil of mist …

      Thank you very much for your most kind opinion of the merits of these lines .. I’m happy to know you liked them so much.
