Spindrift …

Far out to sea

the tide is turning.

The ocean is calling to the shore.

I hear in her voice

a tempestuous yearning

in surging waves

wild and raw.

The thundering white horses

are kissed by the spindrift

as hazily blue

as love-in-the-mist.

Softly as petals

breakers are breaking;

the sea is returning

to embrace the land –

enfolding the beach

in circlets of sound.

I’m making footprints

in the hollows of sand ..

the pulse of the sea

slows in the surf ..

the heart of the ocean

is no longer aching as

she sings of her lover –

the welcoming earth … .
