The lost mind …

I am the gaoler of my mind.

Thoughts like caged birds

beat upon the bars of memory

with tattered wings;

ragged words like torn flags

fluttering …

Uncaged birds will seek the sky

on freedom-loving wings:

I see them fly.

Where will I find the key

to unlock that damaged door;

did they ever soar and sing

or did they stand and weep,

as I do now,

There is no release

for these prisoners of my mind

held hostage in infirmity;

trapped in trammelled time.

Coherence flickers briefly

only to die

like a candle in the darkness,

guttering …

Uncaged birds will seek the sky

on freedom-loving wings:

I see them fly … .

    And the gloomy pic looks more like the regions I see around me than the bright and airy views of yours, atom.

    Hello Shermeen .. Thank you. Yes, life is sunshine and shadow … one is inseparable from the other.

    I love your description of ‘ the gloomy pic’ .. No, it wasn’t Cornwall. I took it at dawn in the Brecon Beacons on a dark morning .. it was actually beautiful to see the sky lightening and revealing the lovely mountains little by little .. I’ll post other photos of the area taken in sunshine:-)

    Your love of nature and your sense of the aesthetics adds a certain quality to your beautiful poetry.
