Fable …

“Hatred has consumed my soul,”

the fabled Phoenix said

beneath a starless sky.

His great wings outspread

upon the parched earth

where no birds sing.

Seeds die before their birth;

no flowers scent the air.

The seas run dry.

A desultory vulture

picks over hyena bones ..

all hope has fled ..

even the scavengers of the veldt

are dead.

“Love has fallen into the void,”

the dying Phoenix said

in despair.

“I cannot rise again.”

In the darkness

he heard

the last murmurs

of a turtle-dove.

“Take my heart,”she said, “it’s mine to give ..

rise from the ashes of burnt hopes ..

soar into the uncovered sun

and live.” … .

The eternal pattern of life, birth deeds and death – and then re-birth – resurrection – with transformation. The true account of evolution. How ancient are our ‘new’ ideas!

Hi Jamie .. yes, there’s nothing new under the sun … it has seen it all before 🙂
